The Cojuangcos are supporting former Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development assistant secretary Lea Delfinado for representative of the 4th District of Negros Occidental.
Delfinado is running against Negros Occidental Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer who is seeking a comeback as representative of the district.
His wife, Rep. Juliet Marie Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4th District), is on her third term and is not up for reelection.
Lisa Cojuangco Cruz and Claudia Cojuangco handed Delfinado her Nationalist People’s Coalition Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance at the NPC headquarters in Quezon City on Friday.
Cruz is the daughter of the late Ambassador Eduardo Cojuangco who founded the NPC.
Claudia Cojuangco is the daughter of his son, Carlos “Charlie” Cojuangco, who had served as congressman of the 4th District of Negros Occidental and passed away in 2022.
Delfinado, who had also served as Department of Public Works and Highways regional director for Western Visayas, said she is retired and it’s time for her to serve the 4th District.
There is a lot of work that needs to be done in the 4th District, including the construction of more farm to market roads, she said.
She also plans to work on improving education and health services in the 4th District, Delfinado said.
“My 37 years of service in the national government is more than enough to qualify me to run” for representative for the 4th District, she said.
Vice Governor Ferrer, National Unity Party member and United Negros Alliance president, said he has no reaction to the Cojuangcos support for Delfinado.
He was earlier endorsed by UNegA and Love Negros for representative of the 4th District.
Delfinado’s son Leo Carlo Delfinado is also running for Board Member of the 4th District under the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.*
