Security personnel will be assigned at the Vendors Plaza at the Father M. Ferrero Street in Bacolod City to prevent the further theft of parts of its structure, City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting Jr. said on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Ting said he will discuss the security of the facility with Primitivo Tabujara, head of the Bacolod Public Order and Safety Office.
The Bacolod Vendors Plaza at the reclamation area had been sealed off but there are videos of people carting away parts of its structure, he said.
Ting said parts of galvanized roof, steel trusses and cables have been stolen.
What is dangerous is the building could cave in and injure people, he said.
The theft will be investigated, he said.
The Vendors Plaza is up for demolition as it is part of the area to be developed by SM Prime Holdings Inc. through a lease agreement with the Bacolod City government.
The Commission on Audit still has to evaluate the waste value of the Vendors Plaza before it is demolished, Ting said.*
