The COVID-19 positivity rate is on the rise in Bacolod City, it is very alarming, Dr. Julius Drilon, Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) chief, said Sunday, May 30.

The dedicated beds for COVID-19 confirmed cases at the wards and Critical Care Unit of CLMMRH in Bacolod City have reached full capacity, he said.

The emergency room of the hospital will no longer accept COVID-19 patients except for extreme emergency cases until further notice, he said.

COVID-19 patients are advised to avail of services from other hospitals in the province, he said.

The hospital will resume acceptance of COVID-19 patients once hospital beds become available, Drilon added.

There are also 26 CLMMRH staff who are currently positive for COVID-19 occupying three wards at the hospital, he said.

The CLMMRH Molecular laboratory data shows that of the total specimens submitted for COVID-19 testing the positivity rate during the period April 1 to 7 was 11.13 percent, April 8 to 14 – 20.52 percent, April 15 to 21 – 20.91 percent, April 22 to 28 – 23.49 percent, April 29 to 30 – 15.29 percent, May 1 to 7- 18.53 percent, May 8 to 14 – 32.70 percent, May 15 to 21 – 43.24 percent and May 22 to 28 – 33.41 percent, Drilon said.

Those numbers are very alarming, he said.

He stressed the need to lessen movement, and for massive contact tracing and testing to curb the spread of the virus.

COVID-19 is a public health concern that needs the cooperation of everyone to mitigate its spread, a CLMMRH advisory also said.

It is strongly advised that everyone should follow health safety protocols such as physical distancing, frequent hand washing, and wearing of face masks and shields properly, it added.

There were 41 new COVID-19 cases in Bacolod City for a total of 1,218 active cases on Sunday, the Department of Health reported.*
