PCol. Jonathan B. Abella officially assumed command as the Acting Provincial Director of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO) during a ceremony held at Camp Alfredo M. Montelibano Sr. in Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City, on Tuesday, Sept. 1
PBrig. Gen. Romano V. Cardiño, Regional Director of the Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO NIR), presided over the ceremony.
Prior to his new assignment, Abella served at the Directorate for Police Community Relations, where he specialized in strengthening police-community engagement and promoting responsive, people-centered law enforcement, a press release from the PRO NIR said.
In his new capacity, he is tasked with leading NOrPPO in maintaining peace and order, implementing police programs across the province, enforcing personnel discipline, and collaborating with local government units and stakeholders, it said.
During his address, Cardiño highlighted the heightened responsibility and accountability that comes with the position, urging Abella to lead with fairness and decisiveness while fostering strong community partnerships.
“The direction of PRO Negros Island Region is clear: we must work together towards a SAFE NIR, where every community feels secure and every citizen has confidence that the police are ready to respond whenever they are needed,” Cardiño said.
“Public safety is not merely about responding to crime, but also about being present and ready when the people call for help”, he said.
Cardiño also called on the officers and personnel of NOrPPO to extend their full support and cooperation to their new provincial director, emphasizing that collective effort remains essential to the command’s success.
The event was attended by members of the PRO NIR Command Group, Regional Staff, Personal Staff, and other regional personnel.*
