City gov’t gives aid to 29 fire-hit families in Sum-ag, Mansilingan

Mayor Greg Gasataya spearheaded the distribution of financial assistance and rebuilding materials to 29 families displaced and affected by recent fires in Barangays Mansilingan and Sum-ag, Bacolod City.

Gasataya stressed that the assistance is crucial to the immediate recovery of the affected families, particularly those in Purok Bakyas, Barangay Mansilingan, whose houses were gutted by fire on August 30, and Purok San Jose 2, Barangay Sum-ag, which was hit by fire on September 1.

Seventeen families whose properties were destroyed  received P15,000 in financial assistance and six pieces of long-span roofing materials to help jumpstart the reconstruction of their homes.

Seven households with damaged homes were provided P10,000 and four roofing sheets, while sharers and renters received P5,000 each as immediate financial relief.

“Thinking about what happened to all of you, I know it is not easy. It is very difficult to process, which is why there is no point in dwelling on why this happened,”  Gasataya said. “What is important now is how we recover and stand up against this trial. The city will do its absolute best, within its full capacity, to extend the help and assistance that you need.”

The mayor also assured the families that the City Government will expedite the replacement of vital documents, including birth certificates, that were lost in the fires.

Students whose school materials were destroyed will  receive new school supplies to help them return to their classrooms without adding to the financial burden of their families.

Juliet Claud, whose house was  damaged by fire in Sum-ag, expressed her gratitude for the administration’s prompt response, saying the assistance has helped her family begin the difficult process of recovery.

“We are currently recovering and trying to move on to live our lives normally, even though the experience still haunts us,” she said. “But we deeply appreciate the efforts of the city, especially Mayor Greg showing up to extend his help. We are truly thankful, and I hope he continues to help those in need just like us”.*
