Christmas is a time to love

One hundred fifty children at the Calvary Kids Home in Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City, got special treats this Christmas   from 22 city government employees.

The Bacolod Public Employment Service Office (PESO) staff and their manager Jovelyn Canoy saved up for their annual Christmas party, which they held at the Calvary Kids Home this year.

Canoy said they unanimously decided to hold their Christmas party at Calvary because they were touched that the home cares for so many children.

Pastor Joe Rosmarino and his wife, Billie, run Calvary, a home for abandoned, orphaned and abused children, as well as those with special needs.

Canoy said she and her staff chipped in for the food and treats for the children at the party.

“This is a team effort”, she said, because  they also solicited contributions from Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez who gave rice for the home, Rep. Greg Gasataya and some councilors, as well as from those in the private sector, including businessman Ian Lo.

It is no joke to feed and raise 150 children so the home deserves all the help it can get, Canoy said

She said she hopes others will help Calvary, too.

The Calvary kids, in turn, sang Christmas songs for the PESO team to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

“Christmas is a time to love” as the children sang was indeed in the air when the PESO staff came to visit them.*
