
A Chinese national was arrested in Bacolod City for selling smuggled cigarettes worth about P7.8 million in a law enforcement operation on Friday, Aug. 29.
The suspect was identified as Ke Kunming, alias “Allan,” 41, a Chinese national, who was engaged in the illegal traded of imported cigarettes without authority from the government, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)- Negros Island Region said.
Operatives of the CIDG-NIR, together with Bureau of Internal Revenue- Region 12, CIDG Negros Occidental, CIDG Bacolod, and Police Station 9, carried out the intelligence-driven operation.
Confiscated from the suspect were 42 boxes of Carnival (red) cigarettes, 271 boxes of New Berlin cigarettes, 23 packs of Carnival cigarettes, one rim of Nise cigarettes, and 10 packs of New Berlin cigarettes.
Police said the seized cigarettes had a total market value of P7,825,000.*
