Ceneco asking NEA to cancel 2 more JVA plebiscite dates

The Central Negros Electric Cooperative board is asking the National Electrification Administration to call off the two more plebiscite dates for the CENECO-Primelectric Holdings Inc. joint venture agreement (JVA) since the “yes” votes have already won.

The votes during the September 2 and 3 plebiscite dates will not overturn the Ceneco member-consumers’ majority votes already approving the JVA, Arnel Lapore, Ceneco acting general manager, said on Tuesday, August 29.

On the sixth plebiscite date on August 27 the “yes” to the JVA votes reached 98,591 representing 55.53 percent or the majority of the total votes needed, Lapore said.

Lapore said the CENECO manpower is now focused on addressing problems arising from Typhoon Goring.

The Department of Education is also now preparing the classrooms used for the plebiscite for the opening of classes, Lapore said.

He also pointed out that some of the classrooms are also being used as evacuation centers for “Goring” flood victims.*
