A grade 4 pupil   drowned in the coastal waters of Purok Maaswa, Brgy. General Luna, Toboso, Negros Occidental, on Saturday,  April 27. The father of the victim, whose name was withheld by the police, said his son was last   seen alive at about 11 a.m. having lunch.  He did not know that his son went for a swim, the father said.The victim was rushed to the  Toboso Rural Health Unit but was declared dead by the attending physician.*

The Bacolod City Fire Station recorded 157  fire calls from April 1 to 21 with 68  percent being grass fires. The Bureau of Fire Protection-Bacolod City reported that grassfire incidents were the highest  at 108, or 68 percent of the total fire calls in the first 20 days of the month. It was followed by post fires with 17, rubbish - 16, residential - 6, sugarcane fields - 3, and business establishments  - 2.  Other fire calls involved vehicular, mercantile, commercial, and assembly establishments, the BFP added.*

The confirmed pertussis cases in Negros Occidental have increased to 13, Dr. Girlie Pinongan, Provincial Health Officer, said Friday, April 26. Most of those who tested positive were children, many of whom were below 9 months old, she said. She also said that a 1-month-old boy is the lone confirmed pertussis fatality in Negros Occidental this year. A 2-month-old girl who died from suspected pertussis tested negative for the disease, Pinongan said. Of the 54 reported suspected pertussis cases in Negros Occidental 13 were positive, 24 were negative while the test results of 17 others are not out yet, Pinongan said. The age range of those hit by suspected   pertussis are from 1 month to 62 years old, Pinongan added. Pinongan said there are no alarmi...
