The Department of Health (DOH) has directed the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) to thoroughly screen points of entry for visitors from countries where new Covid-19 variants have been detected. DOH spokesperson Albert Domingo said the BOQ issued Bureau Memorandum No. 2024-48 on May 24 placing all its stations and other concerned agencies under “heightened alert for KP.2 and KP.3 variants”. “The BOQ, as directed by Secretary (Teodoro) Herbosa, is conducting thorough screening for symptoms of Covid-19, among others,” Domingo said. “We appreciate the public's heightened interest in BOQ operations to protect our population.” The KP.2 and KP.3 variants are descendants of JN.1 together with JN.1.18, according to the World Health Organization. The Singapore ...

Two men hacked each other to death in Purok 4, Brgy. Masaling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, Sunday night, May 26. The police withheld the names of the fatalities who were aged 42 and 35 years old. Police investigation revealed that the suspect and the brother-in-law of the victim had a heated argument in the middle of a drinking session and later went home. However, the suspect who was armed with a bolo went to the house of the victim’s brother-in-law and challenged him. The brother-in law was convinced by his wife to avoid the suspect. But when the victim arrived he confronted the suspect and they ended up hacking each other, the police said. They were brought to the Cauayan District Hospital but were declared dead on arrival.*

The Department of Education-Division of Negros Occidental announced that Tuesday is the last day of classes for public schools under their jurisdiction, with graduation ceremonies to be held Wednesday to Friday, May 29 to 31. DepEd-Neg.
