The Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (NOCECO) on Sunday announced a P1.6509 per kilowatt hour (kWh) increase in its power rate for April.Its electricity rate for April is P15.6104/kWh from P13.9595/kWh in March, it said.The P1.6509/kWh increase is mainly due to a significant jump in the Generation Charge by P1.2785/kWh and Transmission Charge by P0.3737/kWh, NOCECO said.While the rates from some of their power suppliers decreased, NOCECO said there was a substantial rise in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market rates.*

A passenger died while the driver of a Suzuki Carry was injured when their vehicle bumped a truck parked on the side of a road in Purok Masulhay, Brgy. Ma-ao, Bago City, Negros Occidental, on Saturday, April 12.Ramie De Gusman, 43, of Purok Katilingban 2, Brgy. 29, Bacolod City, died, while Edmundo Padasas Jr., 42, the driver and a security guard from Purok 4, Brgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod, was injured, the police said.The Suzuki Carry hit the truck driven by Janel Dequiña, 25, of Hacienda Dinaplaan, Brgy. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 has approved the release of 7,875 food packs for all households in six barangays in La Carlota City affected by the April 8 Mt. A man was shot dead by a security guard while he allegedly attempted to break into an apartment through a window in Brgy. 5, Bacolod City, early Saturday morning, April 12.Ronel Guillermo, 24, of Purok Nangka, Brgy. 3, Bacolod, died after he was shot by Rengie Librado, 40, of Sitio Tres, Brgy. Inolingan, Moises Padilla, Maj. Eugene Tolentino, Bacolod Police Station 2 commander, said.The victim was allegedly trying to enter the apartment by breaking a window when the security guard saw him.The victim sustained gunshot wound in his armpit and was identified by his family.The family of the victim will file murder charges against the security guard who is now detained, the police said.*

The state weather bureau has forecasted a heat index of 42 degrees Celsius in Negros Occidental on Monday, April 14.In response Mayor Javier Miguel “Javi” Benitez cancelled face-to-face classes at all levels in both public and private schools in Victorias City on Monday.He said the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecast of 42 degrees Celsius poses a serious and dangerous threat to students and residents of Victorias.He directed schools to adopt  alternative modes of learning.Central Philippines State University in Kabankalan City has also suspended classes on Monday.*
