The Bacolod police filed   homicide raps against a “bodyguard”, who allegedly killed his businessman employer, before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday,  July 23. The charges were filed against Ronel Panggo Rafael, 34, of General Luna, Toboso, Negros Occidental, PCapt. The Senate committee on public services passed a resolution on Tuesday, July 23, seeking the temporary suspension of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) until all the problems surrounding its implementation are resolved, Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito said. The resolution was authored by Sen. The Negros Occidental athletes who won medals in the recent Palarong Pambansa in Cebu will receive cash incentives on Thursday, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Tuesday, July 23. The provincial government is allotting about P800,000 for the  purpose. Lacson said those who won gold medals will receive P5,000 each, silver - P4,000 and bronze - P3,000 as thank you gifts. The governor also congratulated the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts for their back-to-back win in the Palarong Pambansa secondary girl’s volleyball competition. Western Visayas that was in third place at the Palaro lost by one gold to Calabarzon, Lacson said.*

A farmer was hacked to death during a drinking spree in Sitio Trencera, Brgy. San Benito, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, 2 a.m.  Monday, July 22. Roberto Pinile, 40, was allegedly hacked by Dionesio Tabanao, 60, of Sitio Trencera after   a heated argument in the middle of a drinking session The victim sustained hack wounds on his head, neck, and chest, and was rushed to the Calatrava Health Office but was declared dead on arrival. The father of the victim signed the certification of identification and refusal for autopsy. The police conducted a pursuit operation and arrested the suspect in San Carlos City.*

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office arrested the most  number of suspects  in   anti-illegal drug operations in  Western Visayas  in  the first half of the year, the Police Regional Office-6 reported.  PRO-6 reported that 1,600 persons were arrested in Western Visayas from January to June,  and seized were   P233 million worth of suspected shabu and P2.4 million in  marijuana. Of the 1,600 arrests, NOCPPO recorded the highest with 593, followed by the Iloilo City Police Office with 300, Iloilo PPO with 270, and Bacolod CPO with 205. Aklan PPO had 39 arrests, Antique - 27, Capiz - 67, Guimaras - 27, and Regional Drug Enforcement Unit-6 with 72. RPDEU6 confiscated the highest volume of ...
