Police in La Castellana, Negros Occidental, arrested a 41-year-old carpenter after enforcing a search warrant for violating the firearms law in Sitio Minnesota, Barangay Sag-ang, on Thursday, Sept. 25.
Authorities said residents had earlier reported that the suspect had been openly displaying a firearm in public, causing fear in the community.
Surveillance confirmed he was in possession of a gun, and a verification showed he had no license to own or possess firearms.
The warrant was issued by the La Carlota Regional Trial Court and carried out by La Castellana police and members of the 61st Special Action Company.
Recovered from the suspect were an improvised revolver with no serial number and two rounds of live ammunition for a 5.56-caliber firearm.
He is now under police custody and will face inquest proceedings.
Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region Director Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay said the operation is part of the campaign to rid communities of illegal firearms.
“We are taking decisive and proactive measures to eliminate illegal firearms from our communities, which are often the root of violence and lawlessness. The people of Negros deserve to live without fear,” he said.*
