The body of a 15-year-old girl who went missing after being swept away by strong current while crossing a river in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, was recovered two days later on Friday, Aug. 29.
Police identified the victim as alias “Jelika”, a resident of Sitio Natuling, Brgy. Budlasan.
The victim was crossing the Kabug-naan River with her uncle and second cousin when she was carried away by a flood and went missing on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 27, the police said.
Her body was found by members of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction at 12:30 p.m. Friday by the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Budlasan and brought to the Canlaon City Health Office where she was declared dead.
The police said they are coordinating with barangay officials and the City Health Office for a post-mortem examination.*
