Personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology–Negros Island Region confiscated a suspected sachet of shabu during a routine security operation at the Metro Bacolod District Jail Male Dorm–Annex on Saturday, Feb. 7.
BJMP said the incident happened at around 9:47 a.m. during standard pat-down frisking at the jail’s searching area.
A female jail officer reportedly noticed a suspicious bulge in the left pocket of a female visitor identified as Frezel Anne Erespe.
She was at the jail to visit her live in partner who was detained for illegal drugs charges.
Police said the visitor was instructed to remove the item, which turned out to be a heat-sealed sachet containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine hydrochloride.
The incident was immediately reported to the duty shift supervisor, deputy warden, and jail warden.
BJMP-NIR Regional Director JCSupt. Brendan Fulgencio said the confiscation was part of continuing efforts to prevent the entry of illegal drugs and other contraband into jail facilities and to ensure the safety of personnel and persons deprived of liberty.
He also commended the jail personnel for their vigilance and professionalism in intercepting the suspected illegal drugs.
The BJMP said the seizure and arrest were conducted in accordance with existing BJMP circulars and Republic Act 9165.*
