Bacolod mayor-elect Alfredo “Albee” Benitez said he is aiming to start the construction of affordable onsite condominium-like housing units as shown in photo for Bacolod informal settler families in the first year of his term as mayor
Mayor-elect Alfredo “Albee” Benitez said he is raising up to P5 billion to kick off the first phase of an affordable onsite housing program for informal settler families (ISF) in Bacolod City.
“We are looking at raising between P3 to 5 billion for phase one of our housing program. We will issue LGU bonds so we are coordinating with the national treasury and the Department of Finance on how to go about it,” Benitez said Monday, June 13.
Benitez said he is aiming to start the construction of affordable onsite condominium-like housing units for Bacolod ISFs in the first year of his term as mayor.
He has started talks with Joly Homes Foundation, an NGO that takes part in change-making by working with poor communities in innovating models and practices on housing and urban development.
The Joly Homes Foundation staff are starting the social preparation for the project, because before we execute the plan it needs to be accepted by the intended beneficiaries, he said.
Two to three-storey buildings will be built where the beneficiaries are currently located and will have about 96 units each. Each unit will be about 37 square meters and the buildings will have wide hallways, Benitez said.
The first area where housing buildings will be constructed is at the boulevard in barangays 12 and 13 where there is a vacant city-owned property, he said.
Other areas being eyed are barangays 14 and 35.*
