BBWI apologizes for flooding caused by pipe breakage

Bacolod Bulk Water Inc. (BBWI) apologized to the households affected by its pipe breakage that caused temporary flooding within the vicinity of the Bacolod City Water District 6500 ground reservoir in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City, on Saturday, March 1.

“The incident occurred during the chlorination and disinfection process of our 800mm transmission lines, which is part of our efforts to deliver an additional 10-25 MLD of water supply to benefit the Bacolodnons,” BBWI chairman Ryan Yap said in a statement.

He said upon being notified of the situation, a BBWI team promptly responded by closing the necessary valves to halt the flooding.

“BBWI takes full responsibility for what happened and reached out directly to the affected households. We are fully committed to compensating for any damages caused by this event, including the cleaning of the affected areas,” Yap said.

“Rest assured that the matter has now been fully resolved. We regret that this incident happened in the phase of commissioning our transmission lines,” he added.

Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, in a statement on his Facebook page, said he acknowledged BBWI’s swift response to the pipe breakage incident that caused temporary flooding in parts of Brgy. Mansilingan, including Ging St., Raymundo St., and 6th Road, Hermelinda Homes.

“We appreciate BBWI’s immediate action in addressing the situation, taking full responsibility, and committing to compensate affected households,” he said.

As the bulk water supplier of BACIWA-PrimeWater, BBWI plays a vital role in ensuring a stable and reliable water supply for Bacolod, the mayor said.

“While we recognize their efforts to expand and enhance water delivery, we must emphasize the critical need for strict safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future,” Benitez said.

“The city will continue to closely monitor the situation to ensure that necessary measures are implemented, accountability is upheld, and residents receive uninterrupted access to clean and safe water,” he added.*
