Bago City, which currently has the highest number of dengue cases in Negros Occidental, has intensified its campaign against the viral infection that spreads from mosquitoes to people.
There were 127 dengue cases in Bago as of Tuesday, Feb. 11, Elizabeth Nala-onan, the city’s dengue coordinator, said Wednesday.
Bago recorded 1,090 dengue cases and one death last year, she said.
Dengue cases have been reported in all 24 barangays of Bago, with the highest number in Brgy Lag-asan, Nala-onan said.
Nala-onan said they have intensified their clean-up drives.
They have also been stressing the importance of a clean environment and the removal of mosquito breeding places in talks in communities and schools, she said.
They also distribute literature on dengue and how to prevent it, and stress the need for residents to immediately consult a doctor if one has dengue symptoms such as fever, rashes and body aches, Nala-onan said.*
