Bacolod Emergency Operations Center-Task Force and the COVID-19 Vaccination Council medical frontliners are inoculating city residents residing in remote villages and puroks.

Former City Administrator Em Legaspi-Ang, concurrent EOC-TF executive director and CoVAC coordinator, said their vaccination team, led by Iris Kerr, has been administering jabs to people in remote areas as part of the strategy to protect those living in far-flung areas from COVID-19.

Residents of Hacienda Carmen in Barangay Granada were the latest batch to avail of the vaccines Sunday, Nov 7.

Ang said the city government brings the vaccines to hard-to-reach communities, and Mayor Evelio Leonardia himself checked on the vaccination activity.

The purpose of the barangay vaccination initiative is to reach out to senior citizens and other eligible adults considering distance and transportation difficulties, she said.

Since the activity’s inception in October, the city’s vaccination team has already served barangays Granada, Alangilan, Estefania, Mansilingan, Handumanan, Vista Alegre and Mandalagan, Ang said.

Ang said the barangay-to-barangay campaign came about after she and Dr. Chris Sorongon visited Estefania last month and realized there are still many residents that remain unvaccinated, thus, the decision to expand and bring the vaccines to remote sites.

“It also helped that our team made efforts to educate them of the effects of the vaccine and its benefits,” she said.*
