Bacolod SP wants degradation in Pahanocoy, Sum-ag stopped

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod on Wednesday, June 23, designated Councilor Carl Lopez to coordinate efforts of different agencies to stop a developer in barangays Sum-ag and Pahancoy from further “unabated” degradation of the environment, Councilor Archie Baraibar said.

The Bacolod City Legal Office in May issued a cease and desist order directing Engineer Andre Taculod to halt his business operations in barangays Sum-ag and Pahanocoy that allegedly endanger and destroy the environment.

The CLO cited the cutting of mangroves in a two to three-hectare area, the building of a wharf (mini-port) and development of a beach resort.

The Bacolod SP at its regular session Wednesday approved a resolution authored by Baribar granting Lopez, chair of the SP Committee on Environment, a special designation to coordinate the efforts of national and local agencies to act on the barangay Pahanocoy and Sum-ag situation.*
