A bill seeking the creation of a second congressional district for Bacolod City is expected to be tackled when the Lower House begins its sessions after the state of the nation address of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on July 24.

Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya Gasataya filed House Bill 297 in July last year which seeks to create the first and second legislative districts of Bacolod by apportioning the 61 barangays comprising the city’s Lone District.

Rep. Mercedes Alvarez (Neg. Occ., 6th District) said on Wednesday, June 5, that the bill is pending before the House Committee on Local Government, which she chairs.

As soon as the House sessions resume we will review all the pending bills and see when they will be scheduled, she said.

The creation of the second congressional district has the support of the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod that has passed a resolution recommending its approval.*
