
The Bacolod City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) held a Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) consultation at L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City on Tuesday, April 22.
Present at the event were Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, councilors Al Victor Espino, Kalaw Puentevella and Celia Flor, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-Region VI Director Richard Osmeña, city department heads and transport leaders, a press release from the Bacolod Public Information Office said.
“This activity is one way of understanding the situation and the problems faced by the transport sector. We have tried making headway for us to really move forward concerning the industry,” Benitez said in his message.
“This is one of the first steps in achieving the solution in having a better environment. In any city, transportation is an integral part of development,” he added.
The event was held to listen to the sentiments, concerns, and feedback on public transportation to better serve the commuting public, the press release said.
Bacolod City’s Green Routes and Electric Vehicles were also discussed, it said.
Currently, there are 10 electric vehicles, 605 modern jeepneys, and 1,266 approved consolidated traditional units based on the data from LTFRB, the press release said.
Espino said 16 percent of the public transport in Bacolod remain unconsolidated.
The event included a current Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) monitoring report, a video presentation on the Best Practices of Mass Public Transport System and Electric Vehicles, and a stakeholders’ consultation and feedback session participated in by various stakeholders, including transport cooperatives and operators, public transport passengers and commuters, and the business sector, the press release said.*
