Bacolod gov’t releases slaughtering guidelines

Slaughtering of animals without certification from the City Veterinary Office will not be allowed, Bacolod City government joint memorandum released on Wednesday, January 10, said.

The joint memorandum of the City Legal, City Administrator, City Treasurer, and City Veterinary offices has created new protocols for the slaughtering and release of meat products at the Bacolod City Slaughterhouse.

The memorandum said that no food animal will be slaughtered without clearance from the CVO and must undergo inspection under Republic Act 9296 or “An Act Strengthening the Meat Inspection System in the Country”.

It also stated that meat or meat products that have been processed at the city slaughterhouse cannot be released without presenting a gate pass and original receipt from the city government.

The memorandum was crafted to ensure that food animals are duly inspected and to ensure they adhere to quality and safety standards, it added.*
