Film Development Council of the Philippines chairperson and director Jose Javier Reyes leads the 5-man jury of the 1st Bacolod Film Festival, which will open at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central Activity Center at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.
The festival participated by 10 short films, which will be screened at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central and SM City Bacolod cinemas, will run until Sunday, Sept. 15.
About 20 special and major awards will be determined by 5-man jury composed of Reyes, Singaporean film critic and film festival organizer Philip Cheah, lawyer and producer Jojie Alonso, Bacoleño Director Lawrence Fajardo, and screenwriter Wanggo Gallaga.
Councilor Em Ang, BFF co-chairperson, said that the opening program will be at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central Thursday and the closing will be at SM City Bacolod on Sunday.
Movie and Television Review and Classification Board head Diorella Maria “Lala” Sotto-Antonio is also expected at the closing ceremonies which will be highlighted by the awarding of 20 awards.
These awards include best actor, actress, supporting actor, supporting actress, cinematography, sound, musical score, original story, screenplay, production design, costume design, make-up, special effects, director, picture, and special awards including audience choice, special jury prize, best ensemble acting, and special mention.
Apart from screening, talkback sessions with the directors and film industry experts from Manila and a film appreciation workshop will also be conducted during the festival run.
The short films in competition are “A Flower A Day” by director Chelsea Tasic, “Aninaw” by Charlene Mead Tupas, “Blind Date” by Victor Villanueva, “Chicken Inasal (Those Little Things)” by Poli Gonzales and Massah Gonzales-Gamboa, “Glub{“ by Reginald Amador Zack Verzosa, “Laragway sa Karon” by Pau Ortaliz Santos and Nina Aira Villanueva;
“Manokan Country” by Banjo Hinolan, “Puli Na, Diche Lesly” by Willbryan Garcia, “Sa Pwesto ni Pistong” by VinJo Entuna, and “The Mansion” by Alvin Diaz and Oscar Severino Villanueva.*
