Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, who led the distribution of school supplies to kindergarten to grade six pupils in Bacolod City public schools on Monday, August 5, also announced the allocation of funds for free Internet access and school repairs.
Benitez said the Bacolod School Board has allocated more than P67 million for Internet infrastructure to provide free Wi-Fi connections in public elementary schools to boost learning through access to information.
The city government is also allocating P1 million for infrastructure repairs in each of the about 72 public elementary and high schools in Bacolod City for a total of P72 million, Councilor Al Victor Espino said.
The P72 million will come from unutilized funds, Benitez said.
The city government has also purchased P30 million worth of school supplies for about 70,000 kindergarten and elementary pupils, Benitez said.
So far about 65,000 have enrolled but the number is increasing so a buffer supply is ready, he said, adding that the school supplies distribution will be until Friday.*
