Five-day work weeks in the cities of Bacolod, Bago and Silay, and the municipality of Toboso resume this week.
But the Negros Occidental provincial government will remain on a 4-day work week schedule, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Monday, March 11.
The provincial government and the towns and cities of Negros Occidental shifted to 4-day work weeks in early March after President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ordered its temporary implementation as part of the government’s efforts to conserve energy and reduce fuel use amid rising global oil prices triggered by the Middle East crisis.
Lacson said that the Negros Occidental provincial government will maintain it 4-day work week for now.
Lacson said he met with Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesus Victor Remulla on Saturday and asked him about the return to 4-day work weeks.
Remulla said he will seek guidance from the president, Lacson added.
Mayor Greg Gasataya said he ordered the return of the regular five-day work week for city employees due to improving economic conditions, including the stabilization of fuel prices and transportation costs.
Gasataya said the move aims to improve public service efficiency and ensure better coordination of government responses as the city continues its recovery.
He discussed the move with Remulla during his visit to Bacolod on Saturday, Gasataya said..
“This is still aligned with the city’s austerity measures, particularly on energy conservation,” Gasataya said.
“Based on our assessment, we can now return to the regular work schedule as fuel prices continue to improve,” he said.
Gasataya also emphasized the continued implementation of low-cost energy efficiency and conservation measures.
Bago City Mayor Mayette Javellana issued has also lifted the 4-day work week in her city effective Monday, May 11.
This means that all the offices covered shall resume the regular five-day workweek 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. , Monday to Friday, she said.
She said the strict energy conservation protocols in all Bago City government offices shall be maintained.
The five-day work week in Silay and Toboso also resumed Monday.*
