Baciwa-PrimeWater is tapping an addtional 5 MLD (millions of liter per day) from the Bocal Bocal Springs in Barangay Alangilan to augment the water needs of Bacolod City.
This was agreed on in a meeting called by Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez with key stakeholders on Thursday, March 7, to expedite the implementation of the water augmentation initiative aimed at alleviating the ongoing water shortage.
Councilor Vladimir Gonzalez said the initial work, including pipe fusion and subsequent pipelaying, is set to begin Friday.
Once these tasks are completed, the spring is expected to provide 5MLD of water, significantly improving the water situation in Eroreco, Mandalagan, Villa Angela, and Villamonte within the next two months, a press release from the Bacolod Public Information Office said.
The team also deliberated on the utilization of Matab-ang River as an additional water source. Preliminary preparations for this project were discussed, with Matab-ang River expected to contribute an additional 20 MLD of water, the press release said.
Benitez said he intends to establish a task force to oversee the successful implementation of these plans. He stressed the significance of providing a reliable and sustainable water supply for the people of Bacolod.
Present at the meeting were representatives from BACIWA-Primewater, councilors Kalaw Puentevella and Gonzalez, City Engineer Loben Ceballos, and Bacolod Housing head Victoria Parreñas.*
