ASF Task Force seizes P42M in pork, related products in 2023

The African Swine Fever Task Force seized P42,066,046.75 worth of pork and related products entering Negros Occidental and Bacolod City ports and borders in 2023, Dr. Placeda Lemana, provincial veterinarian, said Thursday, January 25.

Some of the large amounts of seized products were sent back to their points of origin on request of their owners.

The task force continues to be vigilant against the entry of pork and related products into Negros Occidental, especially since the ASF situation in the province is now under control, Lemana said.

The task force seized 20,376.09 kilograms and 53,003 boxes/tubs of assorted pork-products worth P42,066,046 at seaports and checkpoints last year, she said.

In December 2023 they also seized 268.02 kilos of pork and pork related products worth P134,938.25 from hand-carried luggage and cargo at seaports and the Bacolod Silay Airport, she added

Lemana said P39,131 worth products were shipped back and P95,807 were confiscated and burned in December.*
