The Asenso Bacolod candidates led by Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez will file their Certificates of Candidacy before the Commission on Elections on Oct. 8, the last day for the filing of COCs.
Asenso Bacolod chaired by Benitez will field a complete slate from congressman, mayor, vice mayor and 12 councilors, his spokesman Caesar Distrito announced on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
Benitez also announced that he is nullifying the results of the Asenso Convention on Sept. 15, considering that many of the barangay captains did not abide with his directive to exercise neutrality in choosing their two additional candidates for councilor.
He will now personally choose the two candidates, that would come either from among the six nominees during the convention, or from elsewhere, Benitez said.
His criteria for selecting the two remaining slots are winnability, loyalty to the party, and the ability to perform the job well, Benitez said.
He will personally name his choices when he announces the final slate of Asenso Bacolod, Benitez added
Distrito earlier announced that Benitez is 90 percent inclined to run for congressman of Bacolod.
He said if that happens a switch is likely to happen wherein Rep. Greg Gasataya will be the Asenso Bacolod mayoral bet.*
