In a display of multi-sectoral collaboration the Association of Negros Producers, Inc. (ANP), in partnership with the Negros Occidental provincial government and various stakeholders, spearheaded a comprehensive community development activity in Barangay Puey, Sagay City, Friday, July 3.
The initiative is part of the Gender and Development (GAD) project titled “Entrepreneurial Support and Value Formation for Vulnerable Areas, Indigenous People and Community-Based Organizations,” under Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, a press release from ANP said.
Barangay Puey serves as the vital community partner for this sustainable development rollout.
The day-long activity addressed education, emergency response, health, agriculture, and infrastructure through several key turnovers and site assessments facilitated by the 79th Infantry Battalion and the Youth for Peace Movement North Negros Chapter:
- Health and Hygiene: A total of 850 hygiene kits were turned over to cover all elementary students in Barangay Puey, promoting better health practices among the local youth.
- Emergency Response Enhancement: The Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Responders received 10 sets of medicine kits, emergency kits, and spine boards to significantly boost their local disaster readiness and rescue capabilities.
- Agricultural Sustainability: The Ata Village, selected as the pilot demo vegetable farm under the Hapag Program of Barangay Puey, was equipped with garden tools, equipment, and 10 packs of seeds to foster food security and local agricultural livelihood.
- Infrastructure and Sanitation Validation: Moving beyond standard turnovers, the 542nd Engineer Battalion conducted a vital site validation for the upcoming installation of a water system and comfort rooms explicitly dedicated to the Ata Community within Ata Village.
Organizers emphasized that the initiative is built on long-term capability building rather than one-time aid.
“Friday’s activity marks an exciting milestone in our GAD project implementation with Brgy. Puey, our valued partner community,” said Sybel Nobleza, ANP External Affairs Officer.
“By providing these vital equipment and kits, we are taking a major step forward together—safeguarding our students’ health, strengthening the local DRR Team’s emergency readiness, and ensuring better healthcare support for every resident.”
The execution of the project was made possible through the leadership of ANP officials, including Arlene Infante – ANP Chairwoman, Nobleza, and Christine Sinoro – ANP Office Manager, the press release said.
The event highlights the growing strength of public-private partnerships in the province, drawing active participation, physical support, and collaboration from the local leadership and a diverse group of stakeholders, the press release said.
It included the Brgy. Puey government under Leofer Consulta Cobrado II, 79th Infantry “Masaligan” Battalion led by Lt Col. Eric Alfonso, 542nd Engineering Battalion led by Lt. Col. Junefer Camacho, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples Negros Occidental represented by Allan Geagoni – Community Development Officer III) and the Youth for Peace Movement – North Negros Chapter.*
