A film about three seniors who embark on a journey in an evolving city won the best picture award at the Sine Negrense: Negros Island Film Festival during the awards ceremony at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central Activity Center in Bacolod City on Saturday, Dec. 7.
“Aninaw”, a short film written and directed by Charlene Mae Tupas, emerged as the best picture winner in the open category of the island-wide festival.
The film revolves around three old friends who in their pursuit of finding the place where their deepest desires come true, embark on a journey against the backdrop of an evolving city and their failing memory.
The film also grabbed other major awards, including best director for Tupas, best cinematography, best editing, best poster, and best actor to the three-man ensemble of Milton Dionzon, Dante Amaguin, and Louis Dormido.
“Thelm Me Why” directed by Vanneza Clear Estañol and Fredu Bayon-on was declared jury’s choice for best film and was also awarded as best production design, best supporting actress for Mary June Ambino, and best actress award for Mary Jane Quilisadio.
“Tagana”, a film made by filmmakers from Escalante City, was the Audience Choice winner alongside with the best screenplay and best original music awards in the open category.
Meanwhile, “Tinigom” a film from Foundation University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, dominated the school category for winning seven major and special awards in the film festival.
The film, directed by Keith Nemenzo, was awarded as best film, best director, best screenplay, best cinematography, best editing, audience impact award for most engaging trailer, and best original song.
“Huni sang Kahilum” was awarded jury’s choice for best film with Ambino winning the best actress award in the school category.*
