Angry Sagaynons beat up man caught allegedly raping child

A 25-year-old man caught in the act of allegedly raping a 7-year-old child was beaten up by angry residents in Brgy. Paraiso, Sagay City in Negros Occidental on Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Lt. Col. John Mocyat Jr., Sagay City police chief, told DIGICAST NEGROS that the suspect was endorsed by residents and barangay tanods to the police station Wednesday night for allegedly raping the child, who is his relative, at a cemetery.

The mother of the child was searching for her when residents heard someone crying in the cemetery. They followed the sound and found the naked man and child.

A video of a concerned citizen shows angry residents shouting and beating up the naked suspect.

The wife of the suspect is also seen in the video asking them to stop beating up her husband.

Mocyat said the police filed a case for statutory raped against the suspect.

The suspect told the police that he was drunk during the incident.

The police chief said that the victim had already underwent a medical examination and was turned over to personnel of the City Social Welfare Development Office for psychological examination and further intervention.

Mocyat also reminded the public to take extra caution and care of their minor children to ensure their safety at all times.

The suspect is now under the custody of the police.*
