Former Sixth District Rep. Genaro Alvarez on Tuesday, October 15, outlined his plans for Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, should he be elected mayor.

Alvarez said he will transfer the city’s funds to the barangays so they can implement their projects, build a P200 to P300 million coliseum, finish the city airport in six months, build a three-story market, and provide homes for the homeless and land to the landless.

Also running for mayor of Kabankalan are Alvarez’s second cousin former mayor and governor Isidro Zayco, incumbent mayor of Kabankalan Benjie Miranda, John Cordero, Eliezer Duron Jr., Leo Oquias and Florelyn Mungaray.

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said Love Negros has committed to support Zayco who was present at their general assembly.

Alvarez’s running for mayor came as a surprise to many.

Running for vice mayor with him is Alice Marie “Ali” Zayco-Gomez, the niece of Isidro Zayco and the daughter of former mayor Pedro Zayco, he said.

Alvarez said the ten councilor candidates on his ticket are all barangay captains.*
