Alvarez confirms running for reelection in 2025

Rep. Mercedes Alvarez (Neg. Occ., 6th District)*

Rep. Mercedes Alvarez (Neg. Occ., 6th District) confirmed on Friday, April 26, that she is seeking reelection.

She said if former Hinoba-an Mayor Ernesto Estrao runs against her in 2025 that is his right, anybody can run for office.

Estrao is planning to run for representative of the 6th District under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino,  Jesus Villanueva Hinlo, PDP deputy secretary general for Visayas and Negros Occidental Council president, said earlier.

She has worked with so many members of the PDP in the Lower House and the   Senate, but if their party decides to field a candidate against her there is nothing she can do about it, said Alvarez, who is a member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition.

During the term of former president Rodrigo Duterte she was also supportive of his administration, she said. Duterte is the current PDP chairman.

Meanwhile, “it is too early to talk about the elections, I will just focus on doing my job”, she said.

Alvarez said she has been requesting  some national government agencies to  put up satellite  offices in the 6th District to bring services closer to the people.

Alvarez was representative of the 6th District from June 30, 2010 – June 30, 2019.

She was reelected representative of the 6th district in 2022 and can still run for two more terms.*
