The congresswoman of the 6th District of Negros Occidental and four provincial board member candidates were among the first to file their Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) before the Commission on Elections at the Social Hall of the Capitol in Bacolod City on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
Rep. Mercedes Alvarez, 41, who is seeking a 5th term as congresswoman of the 6th District of Negros Occidental was the first to file her COC.
The congresswoman, who was accompanied by her father former Rep. Genaro Alvarez, said she chose to file her COC on Tuesday because it was the Feast of St. Therese Day.
Her nephew Sipalay Councilor Genaro “Ralph” Alvarez, 29, and Board Member Jeffrey Tubola, 51, also filed their COCs for 6th District board member seats on Tuesday morning.
All three 6th District candidates are members of the Nationalist People’s Coalition.
Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo, 64, and Patricia Paula Alonso Valderrama, 39, also filed their COCs for board members of the 4th District of Negros Occidental.
They are both running under the National Unity Party.
Yulo said Bago and the 4th District need a representative in the provincial government and his 18-year experience as mayor and vice mayor well equips him for the job. *
