The highly anticipated Legends Rise: MassKara Gugma All-Star Game is set to be more than just an electrifying night of basketball, it will be a fund raising event for Bacolod City’s fire victims.

The game will be held at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum 4 p.m. Saturday. Oct. 4.

The event, a highlight of the MassKaralympics 2025, will dedicate a portion of its ticket proceeds to aid the victims of the devastating fire in Barangay 27, a press release from Gugma Foundation said Sunday.

The massive blaze recently displaced close to a thousand individuals from over 200 families. The Bacolod Gugma Foundation, the event’s organizer, is positioning the game as a beacon of solidarity and support for these families during the world-renowned MassKara Festival season.

“This event is more than just a basketball game—it’s an opportunity to live out our advocacy of Gugma, love and compassion, for our fellow Bacolodnons,” Jose David Diaz, MassKaralympics Director, said.

“Through sports and camaraderie, we want to give back to those affected by the fire and show them that the MassKara Festival is for everyone, especially those facing difficult times,” he said.

The initiative underscores the foundation’s mission to celebrate the joy of the festival while embodying its core value of compassion, Rodney Mitz Ascalon, Foundation President and MassKara Festival Director, said.

“MassKara has always been about resilience and unity,” Ascalon said, adding “By tying in the joy of sports with the value of helping others, we hope to remind Bacolodnons that the true spirit of MassKara is not only in celebration but also in compassion.”

The main event promises an unforgettable spectacle as the Gilas Legends face off against the Greg Gastaya All-Stars Selection in a clash of legacy and skill, the press release said.

Adding to the excitement, the evening will kick off with a heated preliminary match between two of Bacolod’s top collegiate teams: Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod and La Consolacion College-Bacolod.
