Albee water sources found to address supply shortage

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez*

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez said on Sunday, March 10, that two water sources have been found to address the needs of Bacolod City.

Benitez, on his radio program Isugid kay Mayor, said pipe laying to tap 5 MLD (million liters per day) of water from the Bocal-Bocal Springs in Barangay Alangilan to connect to the water grid has started.

Bacolod will also extract about 20 MLD from the Matab-ang River, he said.

Benitez said the water supply of Bacolod was 70 MLD a day but because of the El Niño phenomenon it dropped by 12 percent.

On top of the existing water shortage faced by Bacolod, that brought the city’s shortfall to about 25 MLD, he said.

Tapping water from Bocal-Bocal Springs and the Matab-ang River will address the current water shortage faced by the city, Benitez said.

A more permanent solution to Bacolod’s water needs will also be sought, Benitez said.

Benitez said he has created a task force to hasten the sourcing of water from the Bocal-Bocal Springs and Matab-ang River.*
