A private group has expressed  interest in  constructing the  Matab-ang River water supply and filtration facility targeted to draw 20 MLD (million liters per day) of water to be delivered to Baciwa-PrimeWater.

Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said on Saturday, March 16, that he is waiting of the  private group to submit its letter of intent.

Last week the mayor  said the project would be undertaken by the city government to hasten the delivery of water to meet Bacolod’s water shortage.

“At this point I am looking at all options to make it faster,” Benitez said on Saturday.

If the city  government undertakes the project  PrimeWater will pay Bacolod for the water at the rate set by other bulk water suppliers, Benitez said last week.

“This will be hitting two birds with one stone – you solve the problem of water shortage and at the same time the city establishes an economic enterprise,” Caesar Distrito, the mayor’s spokesman, said.

The Matab-ag River project would  be funded by the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management fund.*
