Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez presented proposed redesign plans to improve and enhance the iconic Bacolod Public Plaza and the fountain area in front of the Bacolod City Government Center on Monday, October 23.
The redesign plans include spectacular lighting effects at both venues to be created by a Korean-based firm, for the enjoyment of Bacolodnons and as added tourist attractions for the city, he said.
The proposed improvement at the Bacolod public plaza would include the use of image projection and sky lasers, four pond fountains and two interactive floor fountains, Benitez said.
The iconic black and white flooring and bandstand at the plaza will remain.
The Bacolod Public Plaza needs to be improved because it is a historical site of the city. We want to enhance it so Bacolod residents and visitors can enjoy it, he said.
Benitez said for the BCGC a pond to plaza transformation system is being proposed where the fountain can be drained of water during shows and big events so the area can be occupied by people.
The proposal also includes the setting up of a color laser projector so images can be projected onto the fountain, he said.
The improvement will include a combination of water, lights and music that can be changed for various seasons and events of the year, he said.
The mayor said he posted a video of the proposal on his Facebook page so he can get inputs from Bacolod residents.
As soon as resources that will be tapped from the national government are available the proposed improvements will be implemented, he said.
Benitez said he showed the proposed plan to First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos and she is open to help find resources for the project from the national government.
Benitez said he will also tap the help of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri for the funding of the project.*
