Bacolod Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez said he is supporting the anti-political dynasty bill.

Under the proposed anti-political dynasty bill relatives of incumbent elected officials, up to the fourth degree of consanguinity or affinity, will be prohibited from holding or running for public office, Benitez said.

That will cover even one’s cousins, he said.

He said the rule does not apply to him and his son, Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) since they are representatives of different congressional districts.

Benitez said he has not asked the Visayan Bloc for their position on the anti-political dynasty bill yet.

He said the Visayan Bloc recently held their Christmas party and most of them have already signed a manifesto of support for House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III.

They also discussed their legislative agenda moving forward, he said.

Benitez said he and several officials are joining the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. soon.*
