962 public utility vehicles flagged unsafe during Undas inspections in Negros Island

A total of 962 public utility vehicles (PUVs) were found unfit or unsafe for travel during the Undas 2026 inspections conducted by the Land Transportation Office-Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR).

The agency said it inspected 13,017 PUVs across the region from Oct. 23 to Nov. 4 as part of Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Undas 2026.

The 962 vehicles, representing about 7.4 percent of those inspected, were barred from operating until they complied with the required safety standards.

LTO-NIR also issued 370 Temporary Operator’s Permits (TOPs) for various traffic and transportation violations during the 13-day operation.

Among the violations recorded were operating unauthorized or colorum vehicles, using unregistered or delinquent vehicles, reckless driving, driving without a valid license, and violations of the Seat Belts Use Act.

The agency also cited violations involving unauthorized or fake license plates.

LTO-NIR said the inspections aimed to prevent road accidents and ensure the safety of commuters and motorists during the holiday travel period.

The agency emphasized that vehicle roadworthiness and compliance with transportation regulations remain essential to public safety.

Although the Undas operation concluded on Nov. 4, LTO-NIR said it would continue road safety inspections and enforcement activities across the region.*
