6th District hog raisers get aid; Capitol to create nucleus farm

Hog raisers in the sixth district of Negros Occidental whose animals have been culled are being provided with assistance, Rep. Mercedes Alvarez (Neg. Occ., 6th District) said Wednesday, July 5.

“We have been giving financial assistance to those hog raisers affected by culling,” she said.

They give about P5,000 per hog raiser, Alvarez said.

There have been 2,095 pig deaths in Kabankalan City and Ilog and Cauayan towns in the sixth district, the Provincial Veterinary Office reported Thursday.

The total pig deaths in Negros Occidental from various diseases have hit 16,015 causing P182, 196,000 in losses, the PVO said.

This has affected 3,376 raisers in 148 barangays in 19 towns and cities in Negros Occidental, it added.

The Negros Occidental provincial government is setting up a nucleus farm for the raising of pigs, poultry and cattle.

The pigs will be dispersed for the repopulation when it is declared safe to do so, he said.

Diaz said with the nucleus farm the provincial government will not be reliant on external sources for the repopulation in the province.

Meanwhile, the provincial Incident Management Team Census and Appraisal Team is validating the names of affected swine raisers in Ilog, Binalbagan, Hinigaran, EB Magalona and Murcia, which will be the basis for the provincial government’s giving of financial and livelihood assistance through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, he said. *
