50th Dinagsa Festival kicks off in Cadiz

The 50th Dinagsa Festival in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, kicks off on Monday, January 20, with a grand opening celebration.

The festivities will begin with a motorcade around the city at 3 p.m., energizing the streets and signaling the start of the much-anticipated festival, a press release from Cadiz City said.

The grand opening program will officially start at 4 p.m. with mob dance performances.

The Patikanay Drumbeating Competition will follow at 6 p.m. Monday. Eight groups will compete to showcase their rhythmic prowess and creative energy.

The DepEd Night, an event organized by the Department of Education to honor the contributions of educators and students to the community, will also be held at Cadiz Arena Monday night.

A fireworks will also light the Cadiz City sky at 7 p.m. Monday.

This will be followed by the Batukada de Negros, a renowned percussion ensemble, which will bring the rhythm of Samba and Latin music to life.

To cap off the night a lively street party will be held featuring DJ Manic Ritmo.

Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. said he inviting everyone to visit Cadiz and experience the Dinagasa Festival set to conclude with the traditional “lamhitanay” on Sunday, January 26.

Escalante said Cadiz’s Dinagsa in honor of the city’s patron, Sr. Sto. Nin̈o de Cadiz, is a unique showcase of faith, devotion, and at the same time, tourism promotion.

The culmination of the 50th Dinagsa Festival will deliver a perfect blend of tradition, music, and community spirit, ensuring a memorable experience, he said.
