About 50 percent of the newly elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials in Negros Occidental had assumed their posts as of Monday, Nov. 13, Teodora Sumagaysay, Department of the Interior and Local Government provincial director, said.

She said the others had not assumed office yet as they had not completed certain requirements.

Meanwhile, the municipal and city Sangguniang Kabataan federation elections will be held Tuesday, November 14, she said.

The winning SK federation presidents will sit as ex-officio Sangguniang Bayan or Panlungsod members in their respective areas.

The election of the provincial SK Federation president should be held not later than Nov. 29, she said. The winner will sit as ex-officio member in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Sumagaysay said they are still waiting for the guidelines and date for the Liga ng mga Barangay elections.

She said the target is for all newly elected barangay and SK officials to assume their posts before the end of November.

They must assume their posts within three weeks after the elections, she said.*
