At least 5,401 transport network vehicle service (TNVS) and service delivery drivers in Negros Occidental received cash relief assistance (CRA) amounting to PHP27.005 million during the two-day payout last week.

Data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Negros Island Region (DSWD-NIR) on Tuesday showed the beneficiaries from Negros Occidental are among the 5,992 drivers served across the region.

“The government’s relief program is aimed at helping transport and delivery workers cope with the effects of rising fuel prices and increasing operational expenses,” the DSWD-NIR said in a statement.

In Negros Occidental, the payouts for the three clusters were held on May 28 and 29.

Cluster 1 covered the cities of Bacolod, Bago, La Carlota, Silay, Talisay and Victorias, as well as the municipalities of E.B. Magalona, Murcia, Pontevedra, Pulupandan, Don Salvador Benedicto, San Enrique, and Valladolid.

Cluster 2 included drivers in the cities of Cadiz, Escalante, Sagay and San Carlos, and the municipalities of Calatrava, Manapla and Toboso.

Cluster 3 beneficiaries were those from the cities of Himamaylan, Kabankalan and Sipalay as well as the municipalities of Binalbagan, Candoni, Cauayan, Hinigaran, Hinoba-an, Ilog, La Castellana and Moises Padilla.

In a statement, the DSWD-NIR said they are “not involved in the identification and selection of beneficiaries,” noting that “the official list of recipients originated from the drivers’ respective TNVS and service delivery companies”.

The list was then submitted to the DSWD Central Office through the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, it added.*PNA
