Students from elementary and high schools across Negros Occidental competed in the “4th Battle of the Bots: Robotics Competition” where they showcased their robotic and programming skills as well as presented innovative project proposals, at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central in Bacolod City this week.
The students, all from publics schools, participated in three categories – line tracing, mission challenge, and sumobot, and some high school students presented their innovative projects on robotics at the event organized by the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (NOLITC).
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson led the awarding ceremony together with Board Member Rita Gatuslao, and NOLITC Administrator Cristina Orbecido on Thursday, September 26.
In the line tracing competition, Wil Fryd Cantero of Binulig Elementary School in Sipalay City and Yaella Rose Briones of Sagay National High School won in the elementary and high school categories, respectively.
For mission challenge, the winners are Ayesha Ablagon of Cartagena Elementary School in Sipalay, and Shanaiah Boctolan of Julio Ledesma National High School in San Carlos.
In the Sumobot Challenge, the winners are Zaiden Jayce Mapa of Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School in San Carlos, and Saimon Lorca of Ramon Torres National High School in Bago City.
The “NURSEREEF: Cultivating Coastal Resilience” project of Ariana Jolie Vicera and Mark Jason Discutido from the Negros Occidental National Science High School was the champion in the innovative project ideas.
Lyn Dela Cruz Piedad and Akysha Nicole Grande of Doña Monserrat Lopez Memorial High School were in second place for their “Solar Powered Automatic Fish Feeder with Real Time Water Condition Monitoring and Response System”.
Erich Joy Grande and Marciela Valdez of Ramon Torres National High School were in third place for their “3D WADDY: Delve, Detect, Declare – An Automated Artificial Intelligence Robot for Identifying Irrawaddy Dolphins (Orcaella brevirostris) and Monitoring Coastal Habitat in Bago City”.
Nyzel A. Antiquera and Adrian Carl Esblaca of Isabela National High School won 4th place for their project “Profundus BeneBot”, and in 5th place were Alleiah Joan V. Yelo and Yvienne Grace V. Cadayday from Ramon National High School for “SCORPIM: Specie Conservation and Observation for Retrieval of waste and Protection of Indigenous Mangroves”.
Each of the winners received cash prizes.*
