31 dead, 59 missing in Negros

A casualty being recovered in Murcia, Negros Occidental.*

Typhoon Tino  has left 31 persons dead and 54 missing in Negros Island.

Most of the dead drowned.

In Negros Occidental  the dead in La Castellana were  10, Murcia – 2, San  Carlos City – 3, Bago City – 3, and La  Carlota City – 4, Gov.  Eugenio Jose Lacson  and La Castellana Vice Mayor Rhummyla Mangilimutan   said.

There are 41 missing in Negros Occidental  with  11 in La  Carlota  City,  23 in La  Castellana and 7 in Bago City.

 There were also nine dead in Negros Oriental  – eight in Canlaon City and one in Vallehermoso, PLt. Stephen Polinar, Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office spokesperson, said.

Missing in Canlaon City were 18 persons, he said.

The total number  of Negrenses affected  by the typhoon were 39,102 families with 134,718  members  in 375 barangays in 29 out of 31 local government units Negros Occidental.

Of those affected 54,783 were in evacuation centers as of Wednesday.
