The Philippine Army-Visayas Command neutralized 28 New People’s Army (NPA) rebels and seized 30 firearms in military operations in October.
Eight government-initiated armed encounters in the Visayas led to the neutralization of 28 NPA rebels, three of whom were killed, and 25 yielded to the government, the Army said in a statement Sunday, November 5.
Of the 25, 19 were regular members of the terrorist group while six were members of the Militia ng Bayan, the Army said.
There were also 61 New People’s Army supporters who denounced their allegiance to the NPA and returned to the folds of the government, the Army added.
The Army had encounters in Binalbagan on Oct. 6, and E.B. Magalona on Oct. 17, all in Negros Occidental.
Lt. Gen. Benedict Arevalo, VisCom commander, said that defeating the CPP-NPA in the Visayas region remains on top of their list.*
