25-year-old laborer drowns in Sagay

A 25-year-old laborer drowned while fishing with friends at the Himogaan River in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 8.

The Sagay City Component Police Station identified the victim only as alias “Renren” of Purok Bagong Silang, Brgy. Bato.

Police said the victim was fishing and drinking liquor with three friends at around 5 p.m. when he jumped into a deep portion of the river.

Initial investigation showed that Renren attempted to hold on to a large rock but eventually sank into the water.

His companions immediately pulled him from the river and sought help from his family.

The victim was brought aboard a barangay service vehicle to the Alfredo E. Marañon Sr. District Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead by the attending physician.

Police said the initial investigation found no indication of foul play.*
