2022 MassKara funds raised short P6M of total expenses

The Bacolod Yuhum Foundation (BYF) has submitted its 2022 MassKara Festival financial report to the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Laws, Ordinances and Good Government.

Councilor Al Victor Espino rescheduled the committee hearing on the proposed memorandum of agreement for the designation of the BYF as the overall organizer of the 2023 MassKara Festival in October because its president Katherine Matiling was unable to attend on Monday.

Matiling had to accompany her children to the Palarong Pambansa, BYF spokesperson Mate Espina said Wednesday, August 9.

The Bacolod Yuhum Foundation raised P80 million for the 2022 Masskara Festival from sponsorships and events but closed at a loss of a little over P6 million, Espina said.

If the BYF is granted permission to handle this year’s festival, its activities will be streamlined. Based on their assessment they had too many activities last year, so it has been suggested that the festival days be shortened.

It has been suggested that it be held October 6 to 22, Espina said.

In principle Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez offered the management of the festival to the BYF but it is pending the approval of the SP, she said.

The foundation commits to submit a report on the 2023 MassKara Festival 60 days after it ends, if granted permission to be its overall organizer, Espina said.

Pinky Mirano Ocampo has resigned as the foundation’s president and was replaced by Matiling, Espina said.

Martiling has experience in organizing events, marketing and advertising, and was part of the MassKara last year, she said.

The other officers of the foundations are Jericho Redil – treasurer Kuster Cadagat – secretary and the board members are Patrick Lacson, Rodney Ascalon and Ma. Lourdes Socorro Montalvo, Espina said.

Jojie Dingcong will be this year’s festival director, she added.

Eli Tajanlangit is a consultant of the festival. “Tanjanlangit because of his years of managing the festival has given so much inputs that will help this new team better manage the MassKara,” Espina said.

Meanwhile, Espina said the hacked MassKara Festival Facebook page is not run by the Bacolod Yuhum Foundation and the problem is being addressed by the Bacolod Public Information Office.*
